In fact, the team building turned out to be a training offered by a professional consulting company, rather than a outing as expected. However, I loved it !

 

    Sorry for not being able to install the software to upload pics onto spaces (MSN spaces really sucks!). I can't share the pics. I really want to write sth down to help memorize these two days' experience with my future bosses and colleagues.

 

    All trainings are delivered through workshops constitued by various kinds of activities. We have global Manager Jeff, AP manager Stephen, Team leaders--Sam, SiaoEung, Tony and other people from corporate IT or from local subcompany IT team. 26 people involved, together serving the whole A.P. region (especially China). Quite a excllent team!

 

    Workshops:

    Day one

(1) Supermind. Collaborate to touch number card on the floor from 1 to 30 in sequence in the given fields. Only one person can get in the area at any time and physically touch one card at one time. We made a highest record of 25'' but still not good enough (target:21'')

 

(2) DISC insight. Each animal represents a type of behavior preferrence at workplace.

         D: Lion. "Get the things done!"  task-oriented; tough on job; proactive

         I: Monkey. "Have fun"/"care more on people"  talent;people-oriented; very sociable

         S: Puppy. Want more sense of security. Do things according to the order; routine work

         C: Owl. Sharp acumen. Data-oriented. Very knowledgeable

    Do you know which type I belong to? LION!!! It has the lest population in any culture. Luckily I was together with 3 other manager/ teamleader in this group.

 

(3) Airplane. Theme about Ethics in workplace and in business. We lost the spirit of ethic and fairness in the game. Really sad. Can we make something different in workplace?

 

(4) Minesweeper. Similar to the Windows Game. We thought it's a competition and took it granted. Finally, we were wrong. It needs teamwork but we kept avoiding sharing info with other groups. We failed as you can imagine. But really learn a lot from this game. Really thought-provoking.

 

    Day two

(1) T-shirt design presentation. Show your creativity!!! My design is a baby lion (remember the I am a LION?) on the path to a lion king, as the story in Disneyland cartoon. I designed and drew it myself. As well with a logo of my university to momerize my college life.

 

(2) Blindfold numbers. Get in line with eyes covered by eye masks and switch the position according to the numbers we got from the smallest to the largest without verbal communication. I learn that without effective communication, the efficiency is low. When in that circumstance, we should stick to our plan, grab the chance to ask for clarification. Of coz we cannot limit our thinking or make early assumptions (some got negative numbers like -2, fraction like 1/3,decimal like 0.17, the most usual reponse is "is this a number?!")

 

(3) Survive in desert. Go through holes on the web without touching the web. Need team work together, to lift, to hold, to pull/push team member though different size of holes. Collaboration/ quick decision making/ good plan are keys to the solution. And we should learn to trust the peers (when lifting people, it could hurt if we don't trust others)

 

(4) Acknowledgement and appreciation. Learn to appreciate others' efforts in these two days, and bring it back to the office.

    We are always talking about "Good Old Days" just like old people used to do, but never thinking about the good stuff right there in front of us. Anyways, nobody is a person either bad things always happen to, or good things always happen to. That's what I believed when I felt really really down some days before. Now, I am celebrating and will cherish the bright future God grants~~

 

   Thank you to everybody around me all the time -- no matter laughters or tears have witnessed, it will be celebrated as the greatest friendship in the world. Moments we shared, are moments when love existed. I love you guys and gals!

 

    Will return to HK one year after ending exchange. I love that metropolis and really want to be back and have another look at the beautiful light show beside Victoria Bay and have another drink in Lam Kuai Fong (sorry about the spelling~~maybe incorrectly spelled)  You want to know what happen? We won the outstanding award of the competition held by ICAC, as well as the ticket of free trip to HK for the coming Summit. And we'll present our report in front of hundreds of people in a crowded hall~~Wonderful~~That's what I always dream of.

 

    I also got invited to Team Building of Eaton IT Group this Friday, in Sheshan, Shanghai. Good to meet future colleagues and the boss. I never thought that I can be invited by a company which only got my signature on the offer letter for less than a week. Sometimes, people caring means a lot to me, a sensitive guy, haha~~~

 

   Good new days start~~and will lead if I keep moving on~

  First offer received, from Eaton Corp. -- an America's fortune 500 company, giant standing in Electrical, Liquid Power and Automative-related industry.

  Never thought of working in IT field in big corp. Workplace's in A.P. headquarter,SH. It feels so real to join in a corp rather than service providers like big four/ consulting firms. Saying 'so real' really means sth more than I can say--it's real biz, real market, real people working itogether in a real oraganizational structure. Seems I suddently skip the part of fantastic dreams about becoming pro consultant or even pursuing MBA  in an oversea campus, and directly join in an industrial manufacturer and struggling from a technician to a managerial role. Hope things can work out not far as I thought. Still keep moving on and stay hungry for more. That's all what dreams tell us about.

  Big day for offer I think. Lots of friends got offers today. Wish everything has a happy ending~ bless everyone pass by, near by, or stay by me...

    在告别2006的倒数几天里，我接到了新东方的电话，被叫去又面试。本以为会一番讨价还价，结果进了校长办公室两分钟，pp还没坐热呢，校长笑嘻嘻地告诉我下学期去兼职，然后握了握手把我送走了。在去面试之前，Abby说，将来“退休”了去新东方教书不错，每周上两天班，每年上两个月。再用外企的知识和国外的学历蒙骗小朋友，教教GMAT和出国申请，日子很是惬意。满不错的retire plan呵呵～～

   去了，轻而易举地得到了我想要的东西——promise me an offer, but not push me on decision making. 桂校长还让我继续找工作，狂汗～～我不知道兼职开始会面临怎么样的困难，但是讲台从来就不是我陌生的地方。我喜欢面对一帮人侃侃而谈的感觉，灌输着我的思想和热情，当然不爽的时候还可以贬损下老板——所谓的新东方文化——希望此类恶习不要带到外企去。。

   新年到了，所有招聘公司都销声匿迹了。人家也有家庭的，sigh～看到毕马威杭州补招，懒洋洋的投了一下。虽说不上对四大有多少热情，但是看看身边众多优秀的狂热的（当然也有理性的）朋友们都往坑里跳，还是忍不住的再次走上这条不归路。四大，剩者为王。我相信下一个十年中国将会亲眼目睹一批批大学生进入这个日渐劳动密集的行业，让这个professional的行业充斥着三教九流，然后一小撮优秀的和个别占着坑不拉shi的小A，经历多年打滚，像汤锅上面的油一般浮现出来成为光荣的Partner. 很显然，这并不是大多数人的理想，但是结果成为了大多数人的现实。在浮躁的年代，我们都对着Mr. Reality膜拜，然后带着满腔感激的心情接过饭钵。我们只是为了生存，理想填不饱肚子。所以，我屈服在现实的淫威下，用颤抖的手点击了最后的submit the application, 再送一口气，高高兴兴地等笔试面试。我们都一样。

   新年伊始，还是有些许的改观和转变的。Cap Gemini还没有消息，Eaton将在下个礼拜终面。不知道最终结果如何，如果全部失利，那我可能真的得work hard on KPMG了。

    介绍一下影片《伤城》，1号看的。没有传说中的那么经典，演技出色，情节老套。唯一感到有点可爱的是很多景点都是我去过的，或许单靠这样就可以成为经典了吧呵呵～～梁朝伟的眼神，是我一生的目标^_^
